LNW was established to meet the needs of today’s clients. But our collective roots and history run deep.
Our firm is built on the foundation of three successful wealth advisory practices. We came together based on our shared values of independence, integrity and a passion for client service. We saw the opportunity to combine our strengths and do even more to help clients get where they want to go.
Laird Norton Trust Company was established in 1967 as a single-family office for members of the Laird Norton family, now in its seventh generation. In 1979, the company began offering its trust services more broadly. Expansion led to the addition of investment services and, ultimately, the creation of Laird Norton Wealth Management, which grew into one of the Northwest’s most prestigious firms.
Wetherby Asset Management was created in 1990, based on a new model that rewarded objective advice and results, rather than the sale of investment products. The integrity of the firm’s approach resonated with clients, and attracted a team filled with top talent. Wetherby grew to become one of the top investment advisory firms in the US, while also cultivating one of the country’s most sophisticated impact investing operations.
Based in Seattle, Filament was founded in 2006 to offer family office and investment advisory services to families with significant wealth. Like Laird Norton Wealth Management and Wetherby, Filament championed the delivery of holistic, conflict-free advice. Combining a boutique service mindset with the vision and resources of much larger firms, Filament earned the role of trusted financial advisor to families looking to reduce financial complexity and live their lives more fully.
Underpinning LNW’s client-centric vision is our firm’s innovative ownership model. We’ve divided ownership between active members who serve clients every day and The Laird Norton Company, majority owners who have maintained LNW’s autonomy for generations.
