The radio station KEXP, one of LNWM’s partners in Pianos in the Parks, is now a global phenom, fanning out from Seattle. But KEXP does need a place to call home. And what a new home it will soon have! Not far from the Mural Amphitheater — where the Pianos in the Parks contest winner performs on Aug. 21, 2015 — construction crews are hammering away on KEXP’s future HQ.
A recording studio with 75 audience seats, so people can drop by and listen for free to in-studio performances. An indoor-outdoor cafe. A record store. A stage.
KEXP has already raised over $11 million to create this new hub for Seattle’s music scene. And they’re closing in on their $15 million goal. By year-end, plans are for KEXP to broadcast from its new studios, with the public spaces opening this coming spring.
If you’re on Lower Queen Anne, stop by to see where KEXP soon will be (at the Seattle Center’s “Northwest Rooms”).
