Coming today to a park or open space near you: A Piano! 

Pianos in the Parks, a private-public partnership made possible by Laird Norton Wealth Management, launched today. The goal is to DELIGHT, to bring together COMMUNITIES, and to SHOWCASE PARKS and open spaces throughout King County and Seattle.

Leading music, arts and parks organizations all worked together for months to put head-turning pianos outdoors so they can be discovered, along with the parks, and played.

So look around! In 20 different parks and open spaces throughout Seattle and King County, you’ll find a piano with personality – donated by Classic Pianos and lavishly designed by an artist from the Gage Academy of Art. From Marymoor Park on the Eastside to the Seattle Center downtown, you’ll find pianos to play and enjoy from July 17 through August 17. There will be free special events, with a wide variety of guest artists, as well as a talent contest open to all.

Pianos in the Parks is being underwritten by Laird Norton Wealth Management, and was created in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, King County Parks, the Seattle Symphony, KEXP, Gage Academy of Art, City of Music, and Classic Pianos.

Othello Park Kickoff

The launch celebration for Pianos in the Parks started today at 1 p.m. at Othello Park in South Seattle. It was attended by leaders from local government, the arts and the business community, and included a variety of performances on and around the “Piano Man” piano.

“Our local resources like our parks are vital to creating meaningful connections within the community,” said Robert Moser, President and CEO of Laird Norton Wealth Management. “We’re thrilled to make Pianos in the Parks possible for the community to discover and rediscover these great amenities.”

Added King County Executive Dow Constantine: “This partnership is another way we’re improving the experience for our residents and visitors, and supporting local arts.”
