— US retail sales fell 1% in July, as consumers spent less on food and goods and more on services (restaurants, travel); government stimulus also subsided.
— US housing starts dropped 7% in July; 690,000 new houses are now being built across the US, largest amount since 2007.
— The head of the SEC asked staff to consider a “human capital” disclosure requirement, focused on how well companies treat their workers.
